The new millennium started as 1999 had finished with 1st Adderbury continuing the campaign to retain Scouts over the age of 14 in the Troop.   The decision finally came through in the late spring.

2000 was a packed year, crammed full of activities, and with yet more football trophies in the cabinet.   The Troop had two teams in the 50km Cyril Gardner hike, with one winning the novice section and the other winning the main competition.

And if that wasn't enough two more Scouts passed the Chief Scouts Award and the PLs decided to create a Mission statement for the Troop...

In the autumn of 1999 the Scout Association issued a consultation on potential changes to the movement, including lowering the Scout leaving age to 14.   Over the next few months the Troop campaigned hard, including collecting signatures on a petition against the change.   The huge amount of publicity the campaign gained led to the PLs being invited to meet the programme review committee at Gilwell Park.

By late spring it was announced that the leaving age would be reduced to 14, but

in a coup for 1st Adderbury an 18 month flexibility was added, meaning Scout

could stay with the Troop after they were 14.

At the time this was viewed as a major win for the Troop.   The more sceptical few wondered how long this leeway would be allowed before the Scout Association tightened things after the public gaze had moved on...

In July Olly Davies was promoted to the posiiton of Senior Patrol Leader, whilst still running the Swifts.

At the end of the year both Olly and James Sollis reached the Scout leaving age and were replaced by Howard White in Merlins and Adam Source in Swifts.   Olly went on to be a young leader.
